Dooars is quite popular and famous due to its lush green tea gardens, dense forests, glimmering Teesta River, and many wildlife sanctuaries such as Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary, Gorumara National Park, Chilapata Forest, Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary, Buxa Tiger Reserve, etc.

You can visit Dooars by road, by air or even by train. All the transportation options are quite convenient. New Jalpaiguri Railway Station, New Mal Junction is the two major Railway stations in Dooars. There are plenty of buses and cars available to reach and visit Dooars from other main cities. Bagdogra is the nearest and only airport in Dooars. After landing at Bagdogra airport, busses and cars are available to visit Dooars.

Dooars is a vast region. It is quite close to Siliguri. The distance between Siliguri and Dooars is approximately 56 km and it usually takes 1 and a half hours to finally reach Dooars from Siliguri.

The approximate distance between Kolkata to Dooars is more than 625km. And it usually takes approximately 14 hours to reach Dooars depending on the road and traffic condition.

After reaching NJP or Siliguri, get a bus or taxi to reach Chalsa. There are plenty of buses available from Siliguri to Chalsa. From Chalsa, Gorumara is just 15 km away and it usually takes 30 minutes to reach there.

All the forests of Dooars like Gorumara, Jaldapara, Chilapata, Buxa stay closed from 15th June to 15th September every year. Jungle Safari, Jeep Safari, and Elephant Safari also stay closed during this time of the year.

As the forest Department of Dooars organizes Jungle Safari, the permit for it can be obtained on the spot. Limited numbers of permits are issued every day for Jungle Safari from the entry gate of the forest.

In order to get a permit for Jungle Safari, you have to submit the necessary documents and fees to the respective counters. For Gorumara you can get the permit from Lataguri Counter whereas, for Jaldapara Elephant and Jeep Safari, permits are issued from the Madarihat counter.

Your Voter ID card, Pan Card or Driving License are needed to submit for Jungle Safari in Dooars. However, if you are a resident of other countries except for India, you need to provide Xerox copies of your passport.

Tickets for Jungle Safari, Elephant Safari, Jeep Safari are issued on the spot by the Forest Department. Issuance of ticket for Jungle Safari, Elephant Safari or Jeep Safari solely depend on Forest Department Authorities. Pre-booking of tickets is not possible, hence bookings cannot be guaranteed in advance.

No, private vehicles are restricted to enter the forests. Only Forest Department Jeeps are allowed inside the forest. Jeeps are provided from the respective ticket counters.

During your Dooars Trip, only 6 persons are allowed in a Jeep Safari at a time. Moreover, there will also be a guide from the respective Forest Department in order to make your Dooars Jungle Safari quite hassle-free.

No, Jungle Safari at Night is not possible as the Forest Department of Dooars Does not allow it to do so. Moreover, there are lots of drawbacks to Night Safari such as low visibility. The forests are full of wild animals and it becomes unsafe to have a Jungle Safari at night.
