After the safari, Returned to Panthashala and settled in for a leisurely lunch at the Panthashala restaurant.

But as the day slowly turned into evening, something magical happened.

As darkness descended, every tower and corner of the Panthashala community came alive with colourful lights. The entire property seemed to glow against the deep green surroundings of Dooars.

Saptami morning is the day of Maa and the Nabapatrika Sthapan. Everyone gathered and made their way to Murti River, where the traditional Kola Bou Snan ceremony took place.

After the sacred ritual, everyone returned together towards Panthashala, carrying with them the spirit of the morning’s celebration.

There was something beautifully simple about the entire experience. The river, the village surroundings, the rituals and the people all came together, creating a feeling that was deeply rooted in the soil and traditions of Dooars.

It felt as if Maa’s arrival had become a part of the village itself—simple, sacred and full of warmth.

Saptami at Panthashala was not just a ritual; it was a celebration where tradition and the soul of rural Dooars came together.

Traditional Ashtami Anjali: A Morning Filled with Devotion

Ashtami is the heart of Durga Puja, and at Panthashala, the day began with the traditional Ashtami Anjali. With everyone gathered before Maa, the morning was filled with devotion, prayers and a sense of togetherness.

As the day moved on, the atmosphere became even more special with the Sandhi Puja, one of the most significant rituals of Durga Puja. The glow of the lamps, the fragrance of incense and the sound of the rituals created a deeply spiritual atmosphere across Panthashala.

Navami Morning: Hom, Yoggo, Bhog distribution

Navami morning at Panthashala began with the sacred Homa Yagna, filling the air with the warmth of the fire, the fragrance of incense and the sound of prayers. After the rituals came the much-awaited Bhog distribution, bringing everyone together once again.

And yet, somewhere amidst the celebrations, there was a slight touch of melancholy. Because there was only one day left.

Soon, the festive days would come to an end. But before that, there was still time to savour one of the most loved parts of Puja—hot khichuri, labra, chutney and payesh, served with warmth and enjoyed together.

Navami was a beautiful mix of devotion, delicious food and the bittersweet feeling that Puja was slowly coming to an end.

Every Evening: Cultural Program with Tribal Dance and Guest Participation

Dashami: Maa’s Visarjan in the Murti River

As the five days of celebration come to an end, the journey towards the Murti River for Maa Durga’s visarjan becomes an emotional moment for everyone. The local villagers, who have celebrated hand in hand with Panthashala throughout the Puja, join the farewell procession too. In that moment, the boundaries between city and village seem to disappear, as everyone comes together beside the flowing Murti.

Maa may return after the Puja, but she leaves behind her blessings, memories and a sense of togetherness that stays long after the festivities are over. The farewell is not marked by the rhythm of the dhak alone—local tribal communities also bid Maa goodbye through their traditional dance and music, making the moment even more heartfelt.

And as Maa begins her journey home, one thought echoes in every heart—“Asche bochhor abar esho, Maa.”
